Freestyle Academy info:
- Freestyle is an integrated program for students from both Los Altos and Mt. View HS located here
- Students must take English and Digital Media and choose their 3rd class in Animation, Film, or Design.
- This means there are only 5 teachers at Freestyle.
- Students work on larger quarter-long projects and their 3 classes CONTRIBUTE to the project productions - see our Projects Page for more details on all the different projects.
- Animation is one of 5 classes at Freestyle.
- Animation, Film, and Design classes are small. Animation has a maximum of 13 students because of the size of the classroom.
- On most days you will teach a particular set of Animation students during 2.5-hour AM and PM sessions:
- Juniors on Mondays AM and PM then Wednesdays AM and PM
- Seniors on Tuesdays AM and PM then and Fridays AM and PM
- Due to the way our schedule interfaces with the block schedules at the traditional high schools, Thursdays have 1.5-hour AM and PM sessions; in order to keep even weekly instructional time, you will teach Juniors on one Thursday and Seniors on the next Thursday.
- Daily schedule - large blocks of time:
- M, T, W, F => AM classes 9:30 - 12:00 then PM classes 1:00 - 3:30 (2.5 hours blocks)
- Th => AM classes 10:05 - 11:35 then PM classes 1:00 - 2:30 (1.5 hour blocks)
- Hardware and equipment info here - you should be familiar with and/or be willing to learn how to use Film equipment/software - the Animation class uses 21.5" iMacs and Wacom Cintiq 22HD if appropriate for Animation, Adobe Creative Suite, Maya (because it's free for Education, but we could use other software). We also have a 3D Printer to play with.
- Bill Pierce, Principal at Alta Vista HS, is also the Principal of Freestyle Academy. However, Freestyle staff work and make decisions on most items concerning our program. Bill allows us to work very independently and supports us in our decisions.
- Each Teacher at Freestyle has use of a 15" MacBook Pro, 21.5" iMac, and lynda.com account as a professional resource for use at home.
