Growth: A Phenakistoscope Wheel by Thomas Copeland (2021)

My intention was to create a piece that represents the cycle of growth. The flower represents the concept of growth, and the knife represents the constant challenges that spur growth along. The hands also represent part of the struggle between growth and giving up. Our conscience will pull us away from the knifes but in the end it helps us grow and become stronger.

This piece also displays that growth is continuous and unchanging nature of growth. There will always be room to improve and grow no matter how many things you have already accomplished, there will always be more to do. This is shown in the piece's endless spinning and cycling, being cut down just to grow back stronger than before. Related website
