Reflections

The Reflections unit was prefaced with the question “Who am I?” Through out the projects we (the students) attempted to answer this question. In English we wrote a personal essay that will be used for the common app college application process. In Digital Media, we recorded both the personal essay as well as the perspective piece we wrote for digital media along with the shore video we made for the perspective piece. In film, we created a video essay,  attempted to reflect how senior year had started for me.

Personal Essay

The buzzer sounds 3 minutes and 19 seconds into the game, my team already has the first goal. Let’s go back and analyze that play, why did it work? How were the players able to execute what they did? Over time, a team builds trust, and with trust comes other advantages.
Because of trust, a team can anticipate and act before someone gets where they’re going. When a team has trust, Passes connect, the opposing team can be slowed and even completely stopped. Whereas a team that has been thrown together in a night and then sent out to compete will likely do poorly.
When trust is broken or hasn’t been developed, a team falls apart and makes sloppy mistakes. That trust can be broken in many ways. People can stop showing up. They can not hold up their end of a promise. But when it happens, the broken trust can be devastating on the way a team plays and interacts both during games and outside of games.
Without trust, people close themselves off from other people. In my experience with this, I’ll take on everything that I’m given to do. I often can’t accomplish everything, and I end up messing up. I drive people away because I think I don’t need them and I get into situations where I’m trying to catch up and digging myself a hole I can’t get out of.
When I start to work with others and not spend my time off by myself, I find I get more done. Now when I’m in trouble I still try and fix it myself, but if I recognize that I can’t, I’ll look for help from either my peers or my teachers.
Also, whenever my peers ask for help, I try to give them any help I can. Working with others has really advanced my ability to stay afloat and not bring myself crashing down as I have many times in my years as a student.
