Documentary

Intro & Reflection

For the Junior Documentary project, We were given the task of representing a person’s story through an English profile article, and for the documentary project I designed, we made a book. We learned how to conduct interviews and research for the narrative-style profile we wrote in English class during this lesson. We worked on images and graphic design elements to tell the subject’s tale in our books and the profile article.

My first interviewee was my father, Stan, a family man who went through the long and painful process of cancer. I asked him about what he had to go through, what things were more difficult than others, and how his past influenced his chemotherapy journey. I also spoke with and interviewed his wife, Anne, about how this journey affected her as well because she was by his side throughout the entire process. Even though they are my parents, I learn a lot about this project. It teaches not only me but anyone who reads the book, the importance of your health and how your family and friends will support you. By doing so, I made graphic designs to represent their path, through pictures and design elements to show visually what their story looked like.

For my profile article, I wrote all the text for my book, with the help and feedback I got from peers and teachers, I learned how to talk the words and the story of my interviewees and creatively display them in a way that honors and nicely portrays their story.

Design Production

or my design project I made a book about my father and his journey with cancer. Some of the tools we used for this project where, InDesign, to make the actual book, and Illustrator, to make all of our graphic design elements, and Photoshop to edit all the pictures we took. My interview with my father took about 17 minutes and then using Premier Pro I translated all of the audio from the interview. Then starting with all the design elements, I tried to get inspired by things that could describe his journey, taking things he liked and was inspired by and put it in a graphic element.
