introduction

Sneak Peek: Creating Surreal Art in Adobe Photoshop

During the Senior Narrative 2 Unit, I seized the opportunity to implement new, advanced techniques in familiar software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects in Digital Media. My art was created with the intent of conveying the narrative shaped by the novel, futuristic world that I built in English. Being a Design student who tends to gravitate towards illustration, I stepped out of my comfort zone and experienced notable growth in the film-based special effects program Adobe After Effects, where I advanced from a two-dimensional workplace to the world of 3D Space. I also dove deep into working with layers as I created Stacked Wooden art in Adobe Illustrator. Overall, this unit greatly broadened my skillset regarding digital software, helping me bring a new realm of creative ideas to life. It also gave me a voice to communicate my world-building project in English through various forms of media.

Sneak Peek: Advertisement design for a custom product

For the Narrative 2 Unit in Design, I had the opportunity to explore graphic design in marketing. It included some of my favorite Freestyle projects, largely because I aspire to pursue digital marketing as a career. Through the creation of product logos, advertisements, a book cover, and a movie poster, I was able to explore the implementation of marketing techniques and widespread communication in design. Not only did I greatly enjoy these opportunities, but the experience they gave me solidified my passions for digital marketing and graphic design.

Sneak Peek: Creating characters in the world-building process

In English, the Narrative 2 Unit was a life-changing trajectory for the imagination as well as the intellect. The highlight of the unit was fabricating a unique, meticulous world, for which I customized numerous structural aspects such as norms, politics, location, and characters. Based on my initial ideas, I was placed into a group to craft a narrative taking place in this world. Leading up to this unit, I found myself fascinated with the potential impacts of AI on our future and ended up fabricating a futuristic, dystopian world in which AI has taken over to the extent of corrupting society. I had the opportunity to draft a television show treatment for the first time, which facilitated my group’s pitch to a room of role-playing “producers.” The world-building project in English inspired many of my projects in Digital Media and Design, and was an experience unlike any other. In addition, I got to delve into various perspectives on a highly debated topic of choice, which holds high personal significance.
