Hello! My name is Nicole Saehwa Hu and I was a senior at Freestyle Academy in 2017-2018. I came to Freestyle because I love Design and wanted to learn more about Digital Media and Communications. This website links to other websites dedicated to each of my final projects at Freestyle in order of completion.

In addition to Design, I love dancing, playing the piano, and fashion. Influences from these interests can be seen in almost all of my projects at Freestyle because they are a huge part of my high school life.

I started off in this program knowing absolutely nothing about coding or web design. At first it was insanely difficult not only because of my lack of knowledge, but also because of my hesitancy to attempt something I am so unfamiliar with. In my two years here I have learned how to overcome obstacles and experiment with things outside of my comfort zone.

Freestyle not only let me grow in web design, it allowed me to experiment and develop skills in photography, animation, graphic design, film, music production, and more. As you scroll further in to my projects, I hope you can see my progress and growth. Although I still have so much more room to grow, I am proud of my projects as they are artifacts of my learning and progress.

The second unit, Narrative, was about being able to visally communicate a story. In this unit, we were able to take concepts learned and explored in the conceptual unit and apply them. My Narrative project was based on a Flash Fiction that I wrote about music and letting go. This is a topic that is really personal to me, because I have recently had to leave certain paths in order to pursue new ones.

The documenatary unit focused on a subject of our choice through a journalistic style. I decided to do my documentary on wearable technology, and the crossover between technology and fashion. I wanted to explore the ways that they are developed, how they are used, where they will take us, as well as what we can do about the changes that they will bring. This is a topic I am passionate about because we are now living in the tech age, and there are many mixed feelings on what kind of society will be developed as a result of all this new developed technology. I wanted to create a piece that tackles the benefits, doubts, and implications of these new innovations. I decided to focus on the wearable aspect because of my love for fashion. It was interesting to discover the ways in which art and technology work together to create something usable.

This final unit of Junior year was dedicated to exploring my own passions and inspirations and creating a final researchbased project that exemplifies these passions. Because of my passion for fashion design, I focused my explorations project on fashion illustration. I really appreciated being able to work and do reasearch on a topic that I am interested and have a passion in. Reflecting back seeing as this is my last unit of my first year in Freestyle,I do not regret my decision to join Freestyle one bit. Although there were more than a few times that I struggled with learning all the new material, I am so happy with the results of my efforts. Making websites was and still is one of my biggest challenges, but i am so glad that I have been able to grow and will continue to grow in Freestyle. It's so fascinating to think back to all the things I've accomplished this past year because of y decision to join Freestyle. Freestyle really forced me to push my limits and for that, I am so gratefu.l

This is the website displaying my projects from first quarter of Senior Year. In this unit, I learned how to use After Effects and Premier Pro. This project is called the "Reflections" unit because my projects were all based on who I am and my values. I also did projects such as a Lyrical essay and Perspective which focus on the struggles and emotions of minority groups.
