...that your SAT score is in no way analogous to your level of intelligence.

College admission is something that has always fascinated me. Ever since I was little I have heard about the ominous applications, impossible SATs and fierce competition. I was scared out of my mind before I could even really comprehend what it actually meant to go to college.

This brings about a theory I have. It seems quite possible that students are so afraid of tests like the SAT, PSAT, AP, ACT, XYZ, and ABCDEFG, because of how terrible they are said to be. Then because of that preconceived notion everyone is automatically prone to failure. For decades, generation after generation has complained about the test’s complexity and length. Movies, books, word of mouth, and news articles continually build the pressure of these types of tests to the point that there is a slim chance any teenager in their right mind would think they stood any chance.

Finally, when a person finally reaches the age of 17, all the build up and horror is reality.Test day: With these helpful “you are quite likely to fail this test and never go to college and live on the streets in a box and eat trash…” notions in their minds students sit down in preparation for the worst 5 hours of our lives. Lost in a sea of number two pencils and tiny blue bubbles they emerge from the test with heavy hearts...
