Ashes: A Junior Self-Portrait Diptych by Jessica Lee (2011)

A diptych is two pictures placed side by side to emphasize a point. To create a diptych I used Adobe Photoshop. At first using the Freestyle camera was cumbersome and confusing because of the many settings that could be used. Now, the camera helps me to notice and view the world around me from different perspectives and angles. The first picture of my diptych is a piece of burning burning newspaper with a trail of smoke following behind it. This basically shows destruction and how painful destruction is. But without destruction or some adverse even in our lives, I would not have the values I have todayIn my poem, I said I cry when something is destroyed. Like parting with an old friends, I am reluctant to part with my old self and old values. The second picture is of a sprout shooting out from the dirt. This basically represents the birth of life. As a result of destruction, there is a boom of life. Just like after a volcano eruption, the ashes provide nutrients for the seeds to growIt also allows a chance for other plants to growIn this case, it means the rebirth of my different values and personalityIn general, this diptych and my I am poem show tow personal characteristics I carry, growth and transformation.
