Self Portrait Diptych: A Junior Self-Portrait Diptych by Julia Day (2011)

I Am. I am a song's best friend and Mother Nature's daughter. I wonder how a simple tune can make men cry. I hear symphonies in the wind, the water, and through the trees. I see beauty and complexity in the simplest of plants. I want to give music back to the world and use my songs to change it for the better. I am a song's best friend and Mother Nature's daughter. I pretend to enjoy the popular mass media. I feel ashamed about what our world has become, and yet I have hope that it will change. I touch people's hearts with my music. I worry about our starved way of consumerist life. I cry from the constant loss of our planet and from soft pianos. I am a song's best friend and Mother Nature's daughter. I understand that the world will not change from only complaints. I say that a song can heal a broken heart. I dream about a Lennonesque utopia, without religion, war, or segregation. I try to provide more help than harm in everything I do. I hope that my children will live in a world greater than ours. I am a song's best friend and Mother Nature's daughter. Both the diptych and the poem represent my two passions, nature and music, and how they interact. The poem describes how much music is a part of my life and how I wish to follow it into adulthoodIn the diptych, it is represented by the piano keys and the sheet music on the canvas. For the left picture, the canvas in the beautiful field represents how nature inspires the music I write. On the right picture, the petals on the keys represent how music can inspire me to go outdoors and be with nature. Such is a cycle that goes into infinity, a give and take systemIn the poem this is represented by the final line, combining my passions.
