Hiding From Myself: A Junior Self-Portrait Illustration by Elizabeth Miotke (2012)

To communicate my depression, I decided to illustrate a herd of animals. I am the red one, lingering in the back, following the crowd aimlessly. I went relatively simple with my illustration because I wanted to use animal clip art. I took a risk and decided to be open with my depression because it isn't something to be ashamed about.

I found animal clip art and placed many of them behind each other, not in a particular order, but showing one behind the group and somewhat out of place. Originally, the animals had antlers but I realized that would be really hard to outline, so I decided to leave them out. Adobe Illustrator was used to create the image. I had difficulty drawing the grass because of a problem with the brush tool. The lingering animal is colored red to create more contrast between the animals as well as provide a reason for possible insecurities. Overall, I thought the image turned out as I had planned and the product was successful.
