Backwards: A Junior Self-Portrait Illustration by Isabella Graziani (2012)

In my self-portrait illustration I am trying to depict the internal conflicts of slow processing and my external conflict of sharing my ideas and risking humiliation. I have really bad dyslexia and it is really hard for me sometimes to share my ideas because most of the time they don't make any sense and people start to laugh. To represent these two conflicts I have the sign with a ski to represent me going down a hill and the other signs on the hill are telling me to slow down and stop but they are backwards to represent my dyslexia.

For my illustration I used Adobe Illustrator to create the images. The elements of design that I tried to incorporate in this project was line, shape, color and, value . For example, the colors on the signs and the value of color on the snow was one thing I tried hard to make noticeable. It was hard at times to use this program because it was pretty new to me. I also had a hard time not using people to reference both my internal and external conflicts. however I felt is was fun and different to create something on Illustrator no matter how frustrating it was at times. I definitely used the undo button a lot. In the end I really enjoyed this project.
