Confined: A Junior Self-Portrait Illustration by Matthew Rich (2012)

The illustration I came up with for this project was a skateboard being bound by chains and shackles. My original basis for the illustration was the fear of confinement. This is a personal issue I struggle with everyday. I hate to be stuck in a position where I'm limited. I don't fear physical pain that follows an injury but the recovery time. I feel more comfortable skateboarding then I do walking. When this is taken away from me I lose a lot of who I am.

To make this illustration I used the program illustrator. At first I was very unfamiliar with the program but after a day or so of playing around I got the hang of it. I downloaded an image of a skateboard of the internet and used a pen tool to trace it. I then removed the image and worked manually on the sketch with a paint brush tool.
