Overflowing Trash: A Junior Self-Portrait Illustration by Matthew Ford (2012)

In my Self Portrait Illustration my concept is I don't like how I am a perfectionist about the small things when there are much more important and pressing issues I should be dealing with. I showed this ….. The main risk I took was hand drawing the crumpled pieces of paper. My idea changed slightly as I had to convert it into a draw image. How I changed the image was that I had to get rid of a lot of small detail top keep the focus on the main idea of the image. This piece was partially a realization on my part, because I was filming a movie at this time and I kept focusing on the smallest and meaningless things, such as direction of the shadow or the shot being slightly out of focus. I realized as I put this movie together that it wasn't as much about the perfect cinematography but more about whether or not I could convey my message successfully. My message was that people often get hooked up on the small details when there are much more important things to do.

I made the piece was through adobe illustrator. I first outlined a T-square. I chose a T-square because they can make a perfect line fairly easily. I put the T-square into a situation where he has a homework assignment where he must make a perfect straight line. He keeps getting caught up on the small little imperfections when he should be satisfied with near perfect. The risk I took was not using a crumpled piece or paper clip art,;instead I just did it by hand. I think it was a reward for the risk because it looks very natural and all of them are different from each other instead or copying and pasting the same piece over and over again. I tried to use only a small amount of color and keep the sizes relatively realistic. I also tried to make an inanimate object as living object.
