Parallels: A Junior Experimental Project by Daniel Kammerer (2013)

In my experimental art piece, I chose to analyze the various positive and negative ways technology affects my mood. In my Photoshop illustration, I depicted two copies of myself coming out of a monitor on top of a table. One comes out of the top of the monitor, and appears happy or satisfied, and is floating away easily. The other is crawling out of the bottom of the screen, and is vomiting rainbows. In gave the background a variety of paint splatters to further convey how many different emotions can be affected by the use of technology.

The creation of this piece went smoothly. I chose to first sketch my basic idea in a sketchbook. I took a picture and used that in the background of my photoshop file to draw on top of. I painted digitally using various brushes both included with and downloaded to photoshop. I made a layer of lineart over the original sketch, and traced various objects from the photo I took. Then I added a layer underneath dedicated to coloring. I didn’t actually learn that many new techniques during this project, because this is how I draw digitally at home.
