The Chameleon: A Junior Experimental Project by Elizabeth Halliday (2013)

In my experimental illustration, I am exploring the feeling of loneliness one feels when their voice has been restricted. In my illustration, I scanned in a background of post it notes with stereotypical silencing words written on them. This represents the idea of someone else taking away your voice and then covering it up with their own words. In the background are historical references to events in the past that have either restricted people or shown their fight against the forced silence. On illustrator, I drew a chameleon and dragged it onto the background of post-it notes. It represents the person that is being silenced and how they have no choice but to blend into the words of others.

For this piece, I used Adobe Illustrator to draw the chameleon. I only drew the contour lines, so that it could be placed over the background without blocking it. I also added some scale-like dots, to add more texture. Also, I placed the chameleon on the upper left thirds. Finally, I scanned in the background of post it notes so it would not only look flat, but also be able to reserve the texture of the paper. I then, using Adobe Photoshop, altered the colors slightly to make it more of a blue tone to further the ideas presented within the project.
