The Lucky Elephants: A Junior Experimental Project by Michelle Staufenbiel (2013)

I started out this project with a simple goal, to express my gratitude toward my friends. With that in mind in began to think about the lucky feeling I experience for having such close and reliable friends in my life. Luck is the main concept that I really wanted to show. I then set out on a huge witch hunt for the perfect symbol for lucky. I then came across the elephant. In Thailand, the elephant represents luck. A close friend of mine from Thailand actually reccomended it to me. I then decided to use my mothers various collection of roses in our back yard. All the different rose colors represent different things. White and yellow represent friendship and unity. Orange represents my enthuisiasm for spending time with my friends. Dark pink symbolises gratitude, thankfullness and appreciation. The red rose symbolises my love for my friends. In the middle of the picture there is a light purple candle with a sun carved in the middle. I put this in because usually a sun represents happiness and brightness, and that is the exact feeling I feel with my friends.

I created this art piece, after a long process of setting up the whole scene. I wanted to be as creative as possible. So I used a lot of texture, through the roses, and the cloth under the elephants, roses and rose petals.
