The Road Traveler: A Senior Comic Strip by Melisa Jones (2013)

This is the comic we created in our Design and English classes. My comic is about Rhode Tarvler, who lives in a small town and is a mail carrier. She also plays flute music on the side and has a dream that she will one day become famous. She delivers mail to a businessman who travels once every month to Whiteshore City, a beautiful city that supposedly has been the base of multiple success stories. A thing that draws her to Whiteshore is its splendid concert hall that appears on multiple postcards she delivers to the businessman. This concert hall has supposedly led multiple musicians to stardom.

Rhode is initially wary of leaving her hometown, because she has hardly ever travelled outside of it due to money troubles, but she is determined to go to Whiteshore and make a new life for herself as a successful musician. The businessman tries to dissuade her from going, citing pollution and rude residents, but Rhode decides to go anyway. When she arrives, she finds Whiteshore polluted and rundown. She is still determined to give Whiteshore a chance. However, after few weeks of living in the city and playing music at small restaurants, she discovers that the beautiful concert hall had recently been demolished to make way for new apartments. Rhode eventually realizes that the businessman was right and her vision of fame was not realistic.
