Scaffold: A Senior Surreal Photo by Janna Wang (2013)

One of my most colorful dreams occurs on a bridge of fence wires. In the heat waves, the crossing lines of the architecture create an askew and nauseous vision. In this dream I feel unsteady, as if the bridge will shapeshift into liquid and leave me falling. I tried to convey the vivid feeling in this Surrealism piece. With HDR, I overlayed two pictures of the bridge, but only kept the ceiling and the floor. The bridge's sides are a galaxy of lights like the aura borealis. As if I could see far into the universe through the sides, but over my head and underneath my feet, nothing is solid. Another element that recurs in my dreams is this specific feeling that is a mix between nostalgia and sugar rush. In my dreams, the object I think of is a pair of socks I wore as a child. For this piece, I decided to use the colors in the socks, yellow and lavender, to paint a portrait of a child laughing.
