Spatters: A Senior Surreal Photo by Jessica Lee (2013)

This piece is composed of an HDR image and a texture image. The goal of the Surrealism unit was to portray images of your dreams or in other words, your subconscious. The HDR image I have taken a photo of is a flower pot filled with gravel left over from a construction site. This image is the backbone of my project. Using Adobe Photoshop, I tweaked the saturation of the image to make the gravel seem blue. The texture photo I used was one of blue lights which I placed on top of my HDR image. Using different brushes and masking the images, I wove the two images together. The effect was an almost unrecognizable image of a flower pot with a gravel-like paint splatter. The darker tint on the edges makes it seem as if the image was created by the subconscious part of the mind. I like to think that this image represents how one tiny piece of gravel can make a huge impact on others around it.
