Extraordinary Ordinary: A Junior Self-Portrait Illustration by Cayley Ho (2013)

For my illustration, I chose to use the main idea of my personal essay, which I explain towards the ending of it. In my essay, I wrote about being the author of my own story. I discuss how I do not know how my future will turn out and how I am not in control of every single aspect of my life. However, this is not necessarily a bad thing. In my essay, I talk about how if I change the way I see the world, I will see that boring is not always bad.

In my illustration, there is a pencil that is in the process of drawing a rainbow that expands from words on a piece of lined paper. The rainbow symbolizes the pathway that is my life and how I am still in the progress of living and learning. The various colors that sprout from the words symbolize the variety and excitement that comes with the unwritten, unknown future that might seem ordinary and standard at first glance.
