Dandelion's Dance: A Junior Self-Portrait Illustration by David Lim (2013)

For my Illustration, I decided to build it around the idea that choices ''pass by like dandelions in the wind.'' This is a direct quote from my personal essay, and is a central theme throughout many of my works. The idea I am trying to send out to my audience is just as we have choices, we also have consequences that will affect those around us. Our ideas, beliefs and opinions are planted into the minds of others, changing the way they think, act, and ultimately, live. I also decided to give it a warm natural feeling that brings back the nostalgia of playing in the fields as a child. A visitation of my youth which escaped so quickly through my fingers.

The dandelion represents the idea or thought that has been planted in one’s mind, and the seeds represents what is spread to the rest of the world. This is to show how just one person or dandelion can drastically change humanity for better or worse. The dandelion has no morals or restrictions, only actions and consequences. The words on the dandelion seeds represent just what can be spread to the world. The reason the grass is so prominent and close to the frame, is to emphasize the complexities of our thoughts, but the wide expanse of sky shows us just how much more we can grow through our minds, and actions.
