Kale: A Senior Narrative Book Jacket by Elizabeth Miotke (2014)

I wrote a story called The Tale of Kale for the Narrative unit. The story itself is a quirky, light-hearted comedy about the new girl in town, living with her estranged uncle. With this in mind, I wanted to create a light and simple book cover that represented the story outline. I started looking through some old photos I had taken in the previous months. I stumbled across a photo of leaves, which soon became my cover. I used a template in InDesign to help with the layout of the book jacket. After placing the photo on the front and back, I had to fill the extra spaces with a blue shade similar to the sky in the photo. To finish off the front cover, I followed the template to place the title. The inner flaps are complete with a plot summary, author biography and photograph. The back includes positive quotes about the story. Finally, I placed a barcode and publishing logo on the bottom, which polished off the whole project.
