Untitled: A Senior Surreal Photo by Lora Maslenitsyna (2014)

My surrealist piece was inspired by a cut-up poem I created in my English class. I arranged clues from a crossword puzzle and came up with the phrase ''genetics lab activity, rembrandt contemporary''. I portrayed these ideas through my use of texture, specifically in my model's eye. I applied a photograph of layered dimes to her iris to resemble fish scales. I saturated this part of her eye, as well. Behind her, I cut out a picture of a crack in the sidewalk, placing the growing leaves in the center of my image, where the sun would be. I also saturated the leaves to increase their vibrancy. The background is an image of a sunset over clouds, which I manipulated through various filters.
