Separation: A Senior Explorations Amplified Piece by Alan Enecial (2014)

For my amplified design piece, I chose to use my blink piece for the Isolation vs. Solitude prompt. I really liked the conflicting concepts between the two similar subjects and so I chose to shape my amplified pieces around this prompt. In this piece, I simply have a crowd of abstract, simple looking figures filling up the canvas. The focal point of this piece is the one blue figure standing out of all the other grey figures. The blue figure is sort of the main character in this piece. It represents the state of separation that you get when talking about isolation/solitude. When you are in either state of separation, you're completely by yourself. The idea between the too concepts is sort of vague for me and so that kind of influenced the way my piece came out. In the composition, I also have a person staring out towards the sky and towards the crowd. I wanted to make it so that this abstract crowd of people are in his thoughts and that the person is the blue figure that stands out. In essence, he represents isolation/solitude.

For this piece, I originally used just the oil pastels for the crowd of figures. I took that drawing and scanned it into Photoshop. I placed it into Photoshop and lowered its opacity. I then took the photo of my friend and placed it underneath my drawing so that the two would overlap. I then added the filter I found over the two photos. After that, I created a path over my friend and wrote different words that mean the same thing.
