(Untitled): A Senior Explorations Amplified Piece by Joseph Pressman (2014)

I used the freewrite from our ''Thought'' prompt to make my piece. Essentially, I wanted to express how we only recall our bad memories. I wanted to express how these thoughts are often very confusing to us. I did this by using an idea from my freewrite that says our thoughts are ''The unpublished B-side of our life''. By making the turn table a flamingo, I feel like I accurately portrayed how confusing these bad memories can be. I also made the bell of the machine a flower because, one, flowers are pretty, and two, sometimes good things can come out of bad memories.

My fine art piece is coloured pencil on Dura-Lar. I took a photo of a flower I found outside and cut it out so that I could use it as a bell for the phonograph. Once I used the Clone Tool to blend the flower into the side of the phonograph, I used the filter creator Filter Forge 4 to create the black and white pattern in the background. I placed text in front of the bell and to make it stand out more I added a gaussian blur to the black and white pattern.
