The Girl and the Cliff: A Senior Explorations Amplified Piece by Parker Malachowsky (2014)

My amplified piece is a visual response to the quote, ''I want to stand as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all the kinds of things you can't see from the center,'' (Vonnegut). I was attempting to represent the ''edge,'' or the Cliff, as a complex, yet benevolent man. I had written a poem inspired by the works of Edgar Allen Poe, which concluded, ''the Girl and the Cliff will always be friends.'' This idea served as the unifying message of the piece. I intended for the depiction to seem almost like a worn tapestry, as if the legend of ''the Cliff'' is not a new one. I did not want the story of the picture to appear as if I created it. Instead, I wanted the piece to be taken as if I only transcribed the narrative of ''the edge.''
