Eyeing the Abandoned: A Junior Conceptual Project by Chanti Holroyd (2015)

I am exploring the feeling of sympathy through the experience of walking alone. I used blue water color to represent the sympathy and sorrow being felt. I painted the ocean because vast, empty oceans are lonely places to be and to me, walking alone means living life in loneliness. I used magazine cut outs of eyes and placed them in the sand, because I feel like it’s impossible not to have sympathy seeing someone walk alone in life.

I created the anchor and rope through Adobe Illustrator. The anchor with the frazzled rope attached represents losing something or someone you were really attached to in life. WHen you get really attached to something and you try to hold onto it with all your strength, it’s extremely painful to lose it. The eyes in the sand are watching the entire thing unfold and they are sympathetic toward the anchor's painful loss.
