Worry through the desire to Rebel: A Junior Conceptual Project by David Niehaus (2015)

This fine art piece is based upon my Conceptual statement that I chose in English. We were challenged with the task of combining an art medium and graphic design element. My medium is the starry background you see behind the mystical illusional clouds. I created this piece with spray paint trying to accomplish the look of that of our universe. The universe side of it represents the feeling of worry knowing how big the universe is and how scary it can potentially be. Adding to the mystery I incorporated a deep foggy mist to further back up my claim of worry in that of how worry can be troublesome like a rolling cloud of smoke. I captured this image using industrial smoke ignitors with black back-drop canvas in a very dark room with little light. This image was tricky to capture but after I took it, I uploaded it to photoshop and cropped the background out so only the smoke would be visible. I then proceeded to do this four times more with different colors each time, in the end combining them to make a mystical contrast to my piece. One of my graphic design elements is the yield sign that serves as the focal point of my art. The yield sign represents the middle man between worry and the desire to rebel. It is the thought that enters your mind right before you decide to make that rebellious decision. Its the thought of worry that makes you think twice about making a bad decision. My second and final graphic design element is the word worry towards the bottom of my piece. I positioned this word in the depths of the smoke to symbolize how worry is always in the clouds. I brought all of these art pieces together in Adobe Illustrator and created the final piece that I am proud of most.
