Fall: A Junior Conceptual Project by Jack Tomkins (2015)

I am exploring the feeling of Fear through the experience of memories. The fine art piece that I created for the Conceptual Unit is made of a one inch thick wood panel painted white. The dripping effect of the paint on the canvas was achieved by filling balloons full of different colored paints and throwing darts at them. The digital aspect of this piece was created in both Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. I used to Photoshop to crop the photo of my fine art part of the piece, I also brightened the picture by adding curves to to lighten the picture a little. I used Adobe Illustrator to create the rest of the digital portion of my piece.

The white paint on the wood represents how people try to normalize and ignore their fears. The different colored splatters on the white background represent the different types of fear that people hide throughout their life. The clouds covering the majority of the background represent the memories that caused them to develop that certain fear. The falling silhouetted people in the midground symbolizes how some people are in a repeating cycle of remembering and falling into the to problems without resolution. The very faint blue behind the clouds and the silhouetted people shows how people cover up and hide these fears from the people around them. The drips of blue paint in the foreground of the picture represent how these memories of fear come and go quickly, in short bursts of intense fear and dread.
