Karen and Mark decide to try an experiment seeing if it is possible for two people to fall in love with 36 questions. They alternate asking each other questions that are designed to make each person feel more comfortable and open up. In the end, they realize that it is the feeling of vulnerability that gives them a connection rather than the initial attraction.

The mise en scene, or the photo on the cover, is a pair of eyes which is a pivotal moment in the story. The experiment requires that the two people look into each others eyes for four minutes without talking. Through this, they learn the importance of intimacy and looking into someones eyes and caring.
