Senior Book Jacket: A Senior Narrative Book Jacket by Paul Pierantozzi (2015)

Portals is a story about a high school student named Chris who builds a portal gun for his physics class. The device can create transdimensional rifts that can teleport objects from one side of a portal to the other. Chris is an underspoken kid and gets picked on by his classmates. After demonstrating his portal gun he suddenly draws in a group of popular kids that want to hang with him. However, Chris soon finds out their intentions are not what they seem. The kids decide to use Chris's invention to help them commit a robbery. When Chris finds out what is going on he decides to put a stop to it and stops the two kids in the act. In the end he decides to destroy the portal gun because he doesn't want it to fall into the wrong hands.

My story follows a young man who makes a portal gun so I wanted to make the main design of the cover to be a shot of my main character travelling through the portal he created. The scene I chose for the cover was the scene where Chris first enters the portal. I think this is an iconic scene of the film since it visualizes the sci-fi element that sets the film apart. I incorporated the complementary colors of blue and orange since the portals are made of fire and the blue complements the orange in the fire nicely. I used a marker font to make the book cover seem for a younger audience.
