Drained: A Senior Amplified Art Project by Maxwell Evans (2015)

This is the final piece of art I will ever create during my time at Freestyle. It is the accumulative effort of everything I have learned over my two year period at Freestyle Academy. The goal of this unit, ‘Blink', was to create art or writing pieces without any thought beforehand. You are simply given the prompt and are asked to write and draw. There is no other direction. In spirit of this assignment, I tried to make my piece without giving much pre-planning as well. The piece you see was very spontaneous, but also made with all the knowledge I had learned this past couple of years. I tried to combine all my separate ‘Blink' pieces together to form a more fluid image, alongside a photo I took. All the knowledge I've been given has helped me develop my own sense of an art style, which has definitely developed tremendously throughout the years.

These past two years at Freestyle, alongside helping me develop my own art style, have influenced my decisions on what paths to take for the future. I plan to major in Mathematics and Computer Science in college, the latter being influenced by my time in Mr. Florendo's Web/Audio class. Creating code in HTML, CSS, and Javascript has definitely been a fun experience, and I want to see more of it as I progress into higher education and my career. I've also gained knowledge that will undoubtable help me in my future beyond my Computer Science classes. While I most likely won't pursue a life of Design, I'm still very happy to have learned how to use programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. Similarly, even though I doubt I will do much photography in the future, I'm still glad I know how to use a professional camera in case the need to use one arrives. And, as simple as it sounds, I'm also happy to have learned how to use a Mac computer, as I've only used PC's before but still plan to use a Mac in college. These past few years at Freestyle have been fantastic, and I can't imagine my high school life without them.
