Avocado Fathers: A Senior Amplified Art Project by Thomas Hoke (2015)

For our Blink/Amplified project, we were assigned the task of to create a digital composition by combining your Blink quick arts and quick writes, and using Photoshop, text, a new photo, and a new font. My blink quick writes were very scattered yet organized at the same time, meaning they stuck to the same motif, by using many different subjects of thought. My blink quick arts were composed of a zentangle, a mandala, as well as a colorful word art with an added zentangle. One of the main schools of thought I revolved around were beans and avocados. I chose these because as I was writing my quick writes, I had an overwhelming urge for both of these things at the same time. This sudden yet odd surge of desire were ultimately the deciding factors in my final product, which incorporated my bean zentangle and word art with my avocado quick writes.

I put all the pieces together in Adobe Photoshop along with a photo I took of a house while hiking along a trail in the Bay Area. I put the eye of my zentangle in the sky which represented an overwatching and overbearing presence that all humans feel at some point in their lives. I placed the mandala in different sizes in all eight distinct corners of the piece, and I scattered the word art throughout the bottom. Overall I had a lot of fun creating this piece, and I hope you have just as much fun looking at it.
