Transport: A Junior Conceptual Transport Project by Shirwille Gutierrez (2017)

In my selected photo, I have a skateboard and a shopping cart with the back wheels of the skateboard are behind the wheels of the shopping cart. I shot this photo from a worm’s eye view with a concrete wall as the background. I felt that the cool grey of the concrete wall went quite well with the metal from the shopping cart as well as the trucks of the skateboard. I chose a concrete wall for the backgrounds of my photos because I felt that the patterns of bricks in the walls was soothing and would contrast with the colorful strips of the wood in my skateboard. However, I did not take into consideration that I would be shooting with a shallow depth of field so the pattern of the wall wouldn’t be noticeable. I chose to shoot my skateboard because I knew other people would be doing the same and I wanted to try to see if I could make my pictures unique from the others. I included a shopping cart into the photo because I felt that my skateboard by itself did not look very good with the background and thought that the metallic grey of the shopping cart could complement the trucks of the skateboard very well.

In Adobe Photoshop we learned how to use Adobe Camera Raw as well as the tools included in Photoshop. Using what I had learned about Adobe Camera Raw, I adjusted the exposure and the whites of my photo to help brighten the photo more without creating too much noise within the photo. Once I had finished editing in Camera Raw and moved onto Photoshop, I used the quick selection tool to select the red bearing of the wheel and the board of the skateboard. I then selected the inverse to select everything except the bearing and the board. Once I did this, I desaturate the photo to make the majority of it black and white. After looking over the photo, I felt that wasn’t satisfied with the pieces of dried plant stuck to the wheel and on the ground. So, using the healing brush, I cleaned up the photo a little more.
