PROFILE

An immersive experience is one scroll away. The design on this page reflects the fresh set of skills and tools I used to make my ideas come to life on this page. Utilizing javascript to turn ordinary objects into animated jquery was a step forward for me in website building. My design aspects are a combination of the design in my magazine article and profile presentation. The Content contains my magazine article which composes my profile essay written in English class and the design elements created with Indesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, which art and design programs.

My goal for this unit was to tell a true and fair story about a single individual with an interesting life to know about. I was asked to find someone who impacted a community or could potentially make a difference in people's lives. I used a recording device to capture my profile star and the other two required interviewees that gave further insight on my star. Then the design elements came into play. I was given the Adobe tools to seamlessly design and take advantage of the integrated applications. My design had to be based off of the theme of our essay and incorporate the message through design.

Susie Werner is an inspirational mother. She represents the ideal role model in the autism communities, local and around the world. 1 in 88 children are diagnosed with autism and Susie’s daughter Alison has been diagnosed. Susie carries the key to coping with Autism because coping is the only solution at this point. She is the mother who does everything she can to raise Alison with enormous love and care. Taking advantage of the current research and therapy, Alison has the best opportunities moving forward. Susie’s characteristics as a mother will make a difference in the community. The voice she gives to Alison will be the voice she gives to every child.

A visual, entertaining media feature hovers above. Visually learn about my profile’s story through photos, interviewee recordings and my narration. To start off with the process, the media feature was sure a challenge. Creating the media required the use of Adobe After Effects which essentially gave me the ability to graphically tell the story. Using blurs, movement and wild effects, I could incorporate my puzzle piece theme and give it life. After Effects was made up of compositions that eventually lead up to the combination of them and resulted in my final media video. Each composition followed my essay with multiple photos being keyframed across the video. In order to have narration, I recorded an adapted version of my profile essay. Real audio recordings quoted from my interviewees come into the feature when necessary. This media feature will reveal the life of Susie Werner and give a deep insight and understanding of her.

The magazine article was my favorite part of this project. Design is my passion and the article really allowed me to express that passion. In design class, I was asked to create an article that I would see in a real magazine; an article that would portray my profile in an artistic manner. I created design elements of puzzle pieces which fit with the whole putting the pieces together for autism. The color scheme was suppose to be united and I did just that. I was professional and creative. The simplicity and clean construction of this article was an achievement for me. I mastered elements of Indesign, a program that composes of the tools to have pages with text and photos and objects with color.

What an unforgettable experience this profile project was. It was an opportunity to expand my knowledge and reach out into the lives of someone else. Through the profile unit, I was emotionally involved. It was a journey for me. At first I felt uncomfortable with Susie and her situation, but then I opened up after visiting her house so many times. I became part of her family and absorbed the environment. I learned and felt Susie’s struggles. Susie provided excellent materials and ideas for me to work with. I received a lot of insight from her surrounding family and friends. This project was a breakthrough in the way I think and function. I see people differently; everyone has a story to be told. We are all inspirations to each other and Susie inspired me. In the end, I learned so much more Adobe software, design techniques, and presentation skills.

PRESENTATION

My presentation was a direct interpretation of my magazine article. I re-created the iconic design elements from Indesign. I used Google Drive’s presentation application to create the powerpoint style presentation. I was asked to create a presentation to introduce and describe my profile star. I delivered my presentation with professionalism and emotion. The slides have puzzle pieces in each top left corner. Every next slide, a puzzle piece fades in to complete the puzzle. Colors are black, grey, yellow and white. I used negative space, large, short text, and photos from my project to convey the story of Susie. I placed the focus of bullet points with large circles. Also, I added the similar lines from my magazine to emphasize the separation between text and photos. I learned a great deal of presentation vocal skills from this part of the unit.
