Hi, my name is Alex Chen and I was a senior at Mountain View High School. I joined Freestyle Academy in 2021-22 year because of my interest and love for film. Being an avid film watcher from a young age, I always had a love for stories. As I got older, I had to decide what I wanted for my future, so I wanted to continue my passion for film, specifically film production.

Aside from school and filmmaking, I am an athlete. At first, I was terrible at sports and wanted to do nothing but watch any kind of video, but at nine years old, my mom signed me up for various sports, including basketball and fencing. Although I focused more on fencing at a young age, I always had a genuine love for basketball. Traveling all over the United States and competing with the best of the best for fencing was fun but, I eventually hung up my fencing equipment and transitioned to basketball. I am not sure if I would play any sports in college, but I will continue to play basketball with friends and family.

During my school life, attending the Freestyle Academy program has been one of the best decisions of my life. I have learned so much from all of my teachers, and through all of the bumps in the road, I have learned to persevere through all the challenges. The opportunity to be a part of the Freestyle Academy community and find like-minded individuals while being unique in their way is tough to find, but I am very fortunate to have.

To reflect on my year at freestyle, I can officially say that this was one of the best experiences of my life. I learned so much from all my teachers and I was able to use the things that I learned from freestyle and implement it at work. I learned how to use different art techniques which allowed me to and create cool art pieces for the company that I intern for. I won’t lie, freestyle can be intense with the heavy workload but it really made me grow and thought me how to be more independent. Its been an incredible experience and I will always cherish the memories here at Freestyle and even tell stories of the crazy days. But until then, ya boi is signing off.
