In this unit, we were required to do a profile on a person who exemplifies a positive impact towards the community. The purpose of the Profile Project was for us to experience what it is like to be a journalist and see what it entails.
screenshot of commericalAfter doing so, we made a magazine in Design. We had to use our digital photography and design skills to make this magazine. We learnt how to make our own type, design to a grid, use elements of art and color wheel. The main concept was to design according to our profile person’s personality and activities.
Lastly in WebAudio, we made a website that showcased our profile person in depth. We made a commercial that gives a sneak peak in their lives. We also displayed our magazine, created a photogallery and introduced our interviewees.
For my Profile Project, I decided to do mine on my dad’s friend and co-worker Sanae Lash. I’ve known her since I was little and knew that she would be an interesting person to do a profile on. Despite having cancer, Sanae Lash remained to be a very strong person. Even after losing her voice, she remains to be active in the community and smiles through everything. I loved doing this unit because I got to learn more about my profile person that I never knew before. I valued learning life lessons from her and getting to really understand her cancer journey.

This is the magazine I designed based on my profile person, Sanae Lash. Our assignment in Design was to create a 6 page magazine that showcased our profile person visually. In our magazine, we used photographs that we took of our profile person and their location and design elements we learnt in Design to create our magazine. For my magazine, I wanted to keep the design sophisticated and refined. Since my profile person is a very nice and lively person who is yet strong and stoic, I wanted to design a magazine that was impactful and mature to truly exemplify her personality.

Meet Patrick Lash

Patrick Lash is Sanae’s son. When Patrick was around 20, and still in college, Sanae started to have cancer. Patrick was Sanae’s main concern when the cancer hit her. It was only until Patrick received her will that he knew his mother’s cancer was a much bigger deal than what she claimed. Patrick now knows about his mother’s cancer journey and is grateful that she survived. He now lives with his wife and dogs in San Jose.
