Reflections

During the reflections unit, we did a lot of work the reflected on ourselves. We wanted to convey who we are as people in diffrent medium forms. In english, I wrote a personal essay about myself. In digital media, I created a mandala. In film, I made a reflection film showng who I am as a person. In english, we made a list of objects that are importantn to us, and we called it the essence objects list. Here’s mine:

My sting of hearts plant, neon jackets, camera, blue door, red door, Avatar the Last Airbender, moon, snow, rain, wedding soup, loud laughter, board games, cards.

Personal museum curation

Our school visited the MOMA earlier this year. We were given the challenge of finding three pieces of art that relate to your values, and three images that don’t. Here is my museum curation:

Medium Longshot: Lunar Base, 1965

I would happily add this peace to my museum. It shows a lot of creativity, which is one of my core values. The way the building is designed shows creativity. Also creating ideas of how we could live on mars also requires creativity.

Gerhard Richter. Stadbild Madrid, 1968.

I would add this peace to my museum. I think it represents the value community, which is one of my core values. I like that the image is clearly a city from far away, but the closer you get to the piece, the more abstract it becomes. It could represent that the community in your life might not be so straightforward.

Gerhard Richter. Lesende, 1994

I really like this piece. I like the colors, and also how intense the girl looks. I would add this piece to my museum. I think it represents one of my core values of determination. This girl looks like see is determined to do something. She looks like she is getting ready for an audition or an interview.

Sigmar Polke. Untitled, 2003

I don’t enjoy this piece. The yellow the artist uses feels dry, and crusty. The man also looks kind of lonely. Something that is really important to me is family and community. I think that images that make me feel lonely, are the ones I don’t love. For those reasons, I would not include this image in my museum.

Curhard richard. Untitled, 1995

Like the photo above, this picture feels lonely. The greyscale used in the image makes me feel melancholy. This also goes against my value of community. Although, I can admittedly say that I do enjoy this picture much better than the one above. I feel like the loneliness represented in the image is purposeful, unlike the image above. Even though it is a thought provoking image, I would not put it in my museum because it doesn’t fit with my values, or who I am as a person.

Conclusion:

When I draw or paint, often times I like to show something that represents life. Whether that be a plant, or an animal (fictional or real), I like to create pieces that make me happy. I like the idea that life, however small, is full of energy. That is why, when I chose the images I liked above, I wasn’t necessarily looking at images that represented my core values. I chose images that gave me a good energy. I have learned that when I gravitate towards things with positive energy, the things I chose correlate with my values. The pieces I didn’t enjoy as much were ones that didn’t have happy energies to them. That is why I didn’t love them.

Mandala

We created Mandalas using illustrator. We learned how to make lines so that they reflected around a circle multiple times. Then we drew our mandalas. Lastly, We exported our mandalas to be laser printed.

Lyrical Essay Video Production

I created a lyrical essay video. My teacher said I could write about whatever I wanted, then record myself reading it. I then went to Adobe After Effects to create a video with photos and animations. Here is my video:

Film Reflection

In film, we made reflection videos that encompass who we are as people. We were tasked with creating a film that shows who we are, without actually telling people things about us.

Production shot

This unit in film has taught me many things. I learned how to create visuals to go with a voiceover, and I learned how to shoot rain when it’s sunny out. I also learned how to properly frame close up objects. I really valued this unit.
