This is the picture I took for this week’s challenge.

This week we were prompted to take a picture framing a subject with a natural frame. I took a photograph of an open window, framing it additionally with plants. I think this picture was somewhat successful in following the prompt, so I am satisfied with it. It has a lot of lines and patterns, which I think is pretty cool.

Using Props

This is the image I took for the week’s challenge.

This week we were prompted to take a picture using props to make our photo look interesting, and use composition to bring it all together. I went to our backyard and picked up some leaves. Using some examples that were given to us, I held the leaves up to the camera while taking a picture. I think the image is successful in giving it a three dimensional feel, and I am pretty satisfied with the composition of it.

This week we were challenged to use composition aspects to take a photo utilizing depth of field, and making an object seem like a part of a greater whole. I struggled with the prompt a bit and wasn’t sure what to do, so I took a picture of a pot with plants and tried to use depth of field to make it look like it was part of the background. I think it turned out okay, and I feel like I used composition pretty effectively.

Viewpoint

This week we were challenged to take a photograph using the elements of composition, and express a new and interesting viewpoint.  I went for a low shot of some bushes and a tree, because I thought it would be cool to have a smaller viewpoint. It turned out looking like a sort of forest, and I kind of like that feel.

Color Theory

This is the photo I decided to take for this week’s challenge.

This week we were asked to incorporate composition into an image utilizing color theory, and so I decided to take an image while we went on a weekend trip to six flags, when we were walking back to our car in the evening. I noticed the beautiful sunset and I snapped a picture of the landscape. It looks really good and I’m very proud of it, especially with the reflection. It’s pretty to look at.

Rule of Odds

This is the picture I took this week to answer the prompt.

This week’s prompt was based in composition, and asked us to use the rule of odds to take a picture of an urbanscape or architecture. While I am not entirely satisfied with this photo, I think I did somewhat answer the prompt effectively in taking a picture of an urbanscape area. The bike is alone and sticks out, which is where I would say I utilized the rule of odds, and it highlights the bike since everything else in the image is in pairs.

Rule of Thirds Emotion

This is the photograph I took for the challenge

This week’s challenge was a composition challenge, where we were asked to take an image using the rule of thirds and conveying an emotion. I saw an opportunity and took a picture while walking home. think that my picture follows the rule and conveys emotion successfully, one that is ominous. I think that I incorporated photography skills well.

Lighting

An image of an empty soda can, taken using lighting and flash.

The challenge corresponding to this photograph was composition, and we were tasked with using lighting as an element in the image. I decided to just take an empty soda can I had lying around, and placed it in a dark room. I used flash and took pictures in several different angles to experiment the way the light fell on it, ultimately deciding on the image above. I feel the lighting and the shadows work to focus attention on the can, tying into the composition.

Symmetrical Faces

An image of a face, on one side edited to make both sides symmetrical based on the left side of the face, on the right is the reciprocal of that.
I took a photo of myself and edited it in Adobe Photoshop to make each side symmetrical.

The week’s photo challenge was centered around the idea of symmetry. We were asked to take a picture of a face and to make it symmetrical in Photoshop, using the tools to reflect each side and see the difference. I used my face, and the resulting image above shows that my face is not as symmetrical as I thought, with me looking like a different person on each side. Symmetry is a important part of composition and techniques of photography, since the human eye as been said to find symmetry appealing.
