This week we were challenged to follow a story telling prompt, and were supposed to take a self portrait based on what I believe others think I am. I took a photo of my reflection on a screen with the sun in my eyes. I think this is a really nice picture and reflects what I think others see in me, which is a observant, quiet, reflective person, since that is really I how present myself in public. I like the highlighting of the sun in my eyes and the blurriness of the picture, as I think those two aspects add a nice touch.
Storms
I took this picture I while back when it was rainy, and I think it turned out good and it fit well for the challenge of storms. We were asked to use storytelling with this prompt and I think this fits the calm after the storm sort of narrative. There is a calm and serenity, a peace that comes from the image and I’m really happy with it.
Deadly Sins
This week we were challenged to use a story telling element in portraying one of the seven deadly sins. I tried to encapsulate the sentiment of sloth, and so I took a picture of my unmade bed with the pillows placed haphazardly. I think I did okay with this challenge, and was able to show the spirit of sloth with the photograph that I took.
Film Noir
This week we were challenged to use storytelling in a film noir type of image. I took this picture while we were driving, and made it in black and white to match the film noir aesthetic, which I think I did well. The black trees contrast the clouds and the sky well, and I like how it turned out. It kind of tells a story with the way the clouds almost look like a. ghost or a comet.
Modern Convenience
This week we were challenged to tell a story through taking a photograph of a modern appliance. I chose to take a picture of a refrigerator, since I feel it is something I take advantage of often, where I can keep fresh and cool food. I like the angle of this photo, I feel that it is interesting, and that the picture is unified by the single gray color, though there is a bit of yellow at the edge.
Seasons
This week had a storytelling prompt where we were supposed to take a picture relating to the changing seasons. It has been a cold, rainy fall, so I wanted to illustrate that with the picture I took. I took a photograph of several autumn leaves on the ground in a puddle. I really liked the colors, and wanted to include the rainy aspect so the ground and lighting gives off a chilly vibe and the puddle helps demonstrate the season, while also appearing like glass. I’m pretty satisfied with the photograph.
Color Without Color
This week’s challenge was story telling, and so we had to take a colorful image and make it in black and white. I chose a street with a traffic light and a lot of colorful signs, and cars. It was in the morning and busy, on my way to school. I think it is successful in demonstrating a narrative. I’m really happy with the end product.
Friends and Family
For this challenge, we were supposed to develop our storytelling skills, and we were asked to take a picture in which would tell the story of one of the people we know, friends or family. I chose to represent my younger brother. He studies a lot, which is why I had a notebook and a pencil to represent his scholarly side, and how he works hard. He wears his glasses constantly, so I felt it necessary to include a pair of glasses, even though they are mine, I wanted to have it in the image. Then there is a video game controller since my brother is a huge fan of video games and plays them all the time, along with balancing the schoolwork. I feel I kind of represented that balance in the image, relating to the element of storytelling.
Story Telling
This was an impromptu photo that occurred when I saw this empty street. I saw it was perfect to practice taking a picture, so I snapped one while keeping rule of thirds in mind, along with other design principles. This photo was selected to respond to the prompt of our culture, describing us. I think that I am a person who loves to learn about different places and ideas to my own, and so a road leading off in the distance describes that. I also travel a lot with my family, so that shows in the picture too.
