Narrative Visual Perspective in Digital Media

Narrative 2- Digital Media Projects

Pro Tools/Reason

One of the projects we did was to create a soundtrack for a scene in a film, that we could use in our projects if we’d like. The goal was to create a mood and a sort of atmosphere with the song, while learning how to implement the softwares Pro Tools and Reason together. We had to think of certain instruments that we wanted to use to create the sound.

Below is the final product, including screenshots of the interfaces we used.

I tried to go for a variety of feelings with the song, making it sad and mellow at the beginning, and then progressing it to make it sound more hopeful and upbeat.

Javascript/jQuery Splash Screen

Another task we took on was to create a special animation for our websites, to make it look more professional. We had to use a coding software called Adobe Dreamweaver to do so, and we manually coded everything ourselves after learning and following how to do so. We also stylized it a little, and so I stylized to my own tastes and preferences.

I feel like the webpage looks a lot better now, and a let less bland. It adds a special feel to it as well.

Multi Layered Project

For this project we worked with a partner to make a multi layered art piece that sort of gives a three dimensional piece. My partner helped with designing the look of the final piece, which was inspired off Japanese nature art pieces. I then helped with organizing each part into different layers, and we sketched each layer and scanned them to use as a reference for the actual project, which we would do using the Adobe Illustrator software. The scans are below.

Reflection

For this project, my partner and I ran into a lot of issues. She helped mostly in helping come up with the idea and creating the design and overall look for it, while I worked in trying to organize them into different layers. We decided at first that we would do a Light Box, but after finishing the file we were brought to the reality that it would not work with this project, considering that it is paper. So last minute we decided to switch to wood art, and though it did not take too long to switch the artwork onto there, it was still somewhat stressful with the deadline coming closer and closer. But we were able to manage and got it in. I’m grateful that I was able to learn a lot from this project, including skills like teamwork, and troubleshooting. I also had to figure out how to organize layers of artwork to create a three dimensional atmosphere. This project was a challenge, but I grew from it.

Even though this project had it’s hiccups, I’m thankful because that meant that I was able to learn a great deal from it. Besides learning about making an art piece with multiple layers to create a three dimensional artwork that pops out, I also learned about collaborating and troubleshooting, along with keeping a cool head when things do not work out as planned. Because of that, this was a very valuable experience that I will keep in mind.

As for the soundtrack, I’m pretty satisfied with it and I feel I got to experiment with it a lot, which is important. I learned a lot from it and will remember how music is vital to the atmosphere of a scene.

And the coding was interesting, since I have some experience coding already, but this was kind of new but still easy to follow through. I did have a tough time at some points but with some guidance I was able to figure it out, and I’m proud of the final product.
