Hello! My name is Avani Chhabra, I am a design student at Freestyle Academy. Prior to Freestyle, I have always shared a love for art, but haven’t gotten teh opportunity to explore to digital aspect of it. Freestyle has taught me photography, design, Adobe apps, and how I can actually turn art into a potential career. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, drawing, going to the beach, listening to music, and going to concerts.

For my Showcase video, I wanted to show my Documentary project, where in English we wrote the documentary paper and in Design we used Adobe InDesign to put together the edited pictures, documentary paper, and graphic design elements. I loved how we had free reign with this project in terms of what we chose. I decided to interview hippies from the ’70s in the Haight-Ashbury district, a long-term business owner, and student at the private school nearby. The reason I chose this project is I was a frequent visitor of the Haight-Ashbury area and I was curious of its background history, how it’s changed, and what they think of the neighborhood as someone who has seen it through its changes.

I would love to gather some feedback to find ways that I can improve my work and also carry this knowledge into my college experience. I would like to know how I can make my graphics stand out better, how it can be improved, and if there are different techniques that I should use to make the documentary, my art, and photography better than it was before.

My next four years of school I will be attending Northeastern University in the fall of 2024, studying Psychology in the College of Sciences and minoring in Graphic Design. I plan on using this foundation to give me a foot in the door and additional background knowledge to be that I can be in my profession.
