Narrative Visual Perspective in Digital Media

Music Scores

At the end of first semester, to demonstrate our newfound knowledge of ProTools and Reason, we created 8 bars of EDM music. This was a fun way to show how we now knew how to create music, completely digitally. To make the music I used an arpeggiator and a variety of drum, guitar, and strings plug-ins. Another aspect to this was putting everyones 8 bars together once they were all done to create one long EDM banger. This was a nice culmination and demonstration of our new skills in Reason.

Below is the Mp3 of the song I created:

Below are screenshots of the process using both Pro Tools and Reason applications to create this piece:

Multi-Layered Project

For my multi-layered project, I had to use the application Adobe Illustrator to create multiple layers that represent a coral reef in the sea. Yet, before creating the layers using illustrator, we had to sketch out our layers on 10 different pieces of paper. Each paper would contain a sketch of what my partner and I wanted to be cut out on that layer.

Below are scans of the sketches we created before beginning to illustrate our project:

Layer 1 (background layer)
Layer 2
Layer 3
Layer 4
Layer 5
Layer 6
Layer 7
Layer 8
Layer 9
Layer 10

After we took the scans of our layers, we transferred them to Adobe Illustrator where we were able to sketch over them using the pen tool:

Below are pictures of the final result of our light box project:

Reflection:

Our multi-layered project was based on creating a light box that depicted a scene of a coral reef; such as the one showcased in the movie Finding Nemo. Therefore in the scene there are various elements such as a turtle, school of fish, rocks, plants, etc. that allow the coral reef to come alive. This project was a challenge for my partner and I because we missed perspective of the objective on how to illustrate each layer so what we has layers that cut out what we didn’t want remaining. While it took a couple tries, we were able to finally gain understanding on how to create the layers we wanted and to allow the papers to cut out that scene we intended. Reflecting on this project, while it was an adventure it was a learning experience to understand how to use illustrator with creating a piece such as a light box. It took a lot of perseverance and patience yet the ending result of our project was worth it. It was cool to observe how our work done on illustrator can be transformed into many different 3D objects.
