Introduction

We as juniors were given the task of expressing ourselves in unconventional ways. These emphasize creative risk-taking through poetry, art, experimental films, and web production. We learned and developed techniques while using our DSLR Cameras, Tascam Audio Recorders, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Adobe Audition, Avid Pro Tools, WordPress, and Google apps.

As a Freestyle Student, I value having the opportunity to be able to learn things most kids don’t learn in school. Like learning how to do stuff with certain technology, such as taking photos with a DSLR and editing videos in Premiere Pro.

Haiku

We were tasked with the job of creating a video to complement the haiku we had created in our freestyle english class. For the creation of my haiku I had to go through a tedious process of trying to find the correct amount of syllables for it to classify as a Haiku. At the beginning of the project we were given a conceptual statement, mine was “exploring the feeling of uncertainty through shopping.” This was difficult for me as I didn’t know how to fit in shopping into my Haiku without out right stating one was shopping. As we had to take an obscure approach to it. While editing the video I had difficulty looking for music that fit the tone and mood of the haiku. But I do like the one that I landed on.

Something that I value about my Haiku video is the movement of the texts. Specifically the final line, the text goes up to the top left corner and then goes into the middle. Then after a couple of seconds it fades to black, which in my opinion looks really nice. Some other things I like about my video is the intro, I really like how to text is brought onto screen as it took me a while to figure out what I wanted it to look like.

“Why art?”

In English, we were tasked with writing an essay on why art might matter to the world. We had to pick one of many articles given to us to focus on, and we also needed to find an artist whose works related to the main claim of the article. I chose Eric Kaplan’s “Five Theses of Creativity.” and the artist I felt most related to his claim was Marcel Duchamp.

On top of writing an essay we were tasked with creating a presentation to go with it. My goals with this presentation were to condense what I had written for my essay into an understandable format for my classmates to view. We had to do it within 5 minutes so I faced the obstacle of condensing my 5 page essay into a less than 5 minute presentation. Here is the results.

Photoshop Blend Mode

We were tasked with using the Photoshop skills we learned and applying them to 10 different photos. I think that this was a very good exercise for us as students to do as photoshop is a very useful skill to know which can open up many new opportunities in life.

Film

In Film we learned how to film with a Canon camera, how to edit videos, color correcting, and green screening. Something that I value is the great teaching we get from the Freestyle Film Teacher, Mr Taylor. He has taught us many useful skills in terms of filming and editing that could be very useful in the future.

Experimental Synopsis

Experimental Film

In Film our first project revolved around of Conceptual statement we were assigned in English. This assignment was our Experimental film, in which we had to come up with a plot, pitch it to our peers, revise it, then film it. While filming I made the decision that I would both film and act in it as I felt it was easier to do in my first production to not work with actors. This film is heavily color corrected and there’s a lot of noise as I filmed in the dark so It looks relatively amateur.

This is my video timeline for the video above, I had to color correct majority of the film. and I had to green screen the TV screen onto the video.

Scavenger Hunt

For our first assignment we were given a list of shots and we were tasked with trying our best to complete as many shots as we possibly can.
