The Design assignment was to take a short story we had written, and turn it into an image. The story I began with was the story of a girl who got lost with a troublesome aquantence. He was someone she didn't trust much, not because of what she knew, but becuase of what she had heard. He wanted to go one way back, saying that he knew this was the way home, and because she didn't trust him, she wanted to go the other way. He got himself home, while she was lost forever.

The Path to Nowhere

My image tells the story through the usage of the lamp and the moon as decisions. The moon signifies the boy, giving her the option to trust him and follow him home. The city that is shown in the image is dark, none of the windows are lightened. The sky has dark swirls that wrap threatening around the moon. The entire image is made up of black strokes that portray the darkness and mystery. It floats high above the city, illuminating one path for him to take. The moon reads "trust," showing how she can take the option to trust him. Contrary to the option of trust, the street lamp signifies what she has heard, and changes how she sees him. It lessens the light from the moon and makes it that much less beautiful. It takes away from its necessary. It makes her suspect him and not want to go the way home, because she has this way. The light from the lamp makes the word "Suspect."

The Story: Roary and I had never gotten along. He was always too silly and I was always very serious. He joked around rather cruelly and loved to play tricks on people. I hated him more then anyone. By some chance, I ended up as his partner during the trust walk. Taking this as a challenge of my person, I accepted it. And off we started. It was a rather awkward beginning with him talking about how excited he was and me trying my best to ignore him quietly. But as the sun began to set and the map we had began to become unreadable, I realized what a terrible choice this had been for me to make. We ended up lost in an unfamiliar forest. He voted we stayed were we were, and in my ignorance, I chose to try to find a way back. I didn't know how large that forest was, and I don't know if Roary was ever found, but I wasn't. I got lost and parished in that endless maze of trees.
