Conceptual

Risk-taking is an ever integral part of the arts. In the conceptual unit, we explore methods of expressing ourselves through a variety of different mediums and techniques, while utilizing a plethora of different equipment and applications.
In the many years of my life that I have done art, the chance for the exploration of alternative methods was a rare opportunity and a refreshing experience, that I feel both made me grow as an artist, but also greatly expanded my view on what is art.

Behind the Scenes Editing

We wrote our Haiku off of a concept statement, then took our own photos. We put the final video together in Adobe Premiere, by inserting the audio, and animating the text and photo. The prompt for our haikus are chosen from a randomly generated pile of emotions and actions.

BLENDING MODES

Blending modes are a very useful tool for editing photos, it can help vastly change the lighting, saturation, and colors of images.

Behind the Scenes: Photoshop

I have always wanted to learn how to properly use a camera. Being able to utilize a camera and produce good looking photography combined with editing in photoshop was an insightful experience.

ANIMATION PROJECTS
I have dabbled in animation for years now, attending a formal class expanded my media and technique. In Animation,  we use a variety of mediums ranging from traditional hand drawn, to 3D rendering. The works below are mostly in traditional methods.

We did these short animations utilizing traditional methods. For the first Direct Technique, I used marker on glass, while the second was done in a combination of paper cutouts and marker/black paint. This project was interesting as we lacked the ability to go back and edit things as we would be able to for most other forms of animation. We photographed each frame on Dragonframe.

Phenakistoscope

I particularly enjoyed this assignment, and I really enjoy the result. The wheel, once spun, tricks out mind into viewing it as a continuous animation. It is 16 frames in length. The gif. below is done by rotating the still image on an axis.

Exquisite Corpse Animation

As explained before, an exquisite corpse is one project done by multiple people. We were given one starting frame and one end frame to link together with an animation sequence. Seconds 0-4 is my work.

One of the hardest things for me about animation has always been completing them, seeing as they are a big workload. The sense of achievement I got from completing not one but many pieces of animation is unlike anything else. Deadlines may be stressful at times, but it was ultimately useful in making me complete projects I otherwise could not.
