Reflections

INTRODUCTION

The reflections unit explores our identities as artists and what it means to us. We were given a lot of freedom to express and explore the things we want to.

ANIMATION

NAME TAG

Done in Photoshop, we brainstormed thumbnails, then transferred it to digital.

FREESTYLE LOOP

Done in After Effects + Photoshop, I composited the boy out of shapes, while the animation in the back with the text is done with Photoshop.

NOTAN & CHIAROSCURO

We explored different styles of lighting and shadow, particularly Notan and Chiaroscuro, the third is a combination.

ZBRUSH SKULLS

3D Modeling and 3D animation is a large part of Senior animation. We started in Maya, where we modeled simple objects and weapons. We moved onto Zbrush after a while. Zbrush is a modeling software more resembling traditional sculpting. We were required to sculpt a skull to study the human form. When we were done, we placed different mat caps (materials) on them for interesting lighting.

DIGITAL MEDIA & ENGLISH

MANDALA

Done in Adobe Illustrator. This project was pretty relaxing.

PERSPECTIVE

For our perspective videos, we were allowed to talk about whatever we wanted. Negative or positive, we simply had to express something we felt strongly about.

I edited this video in After Effects.

MUSEUM CURATION

In the start of the year, we visited SFMoMa. We picked out a few pieces that we felt connected to, and explained why. Continuing with our theme of self reflection.

Untitled #3

Edward Corbett

This piece was painted on wood, allowing several blocks of different colors to resemble a door opening to a dark space. The general feeling of anticipation or an ominous arrival resembles how I had long felt about the future. It doesn’t try to be anything more than it is with the minimalist design, showing humility.

Untitled (rooms)

Toba Khedoori

Similar to the previous piece, doors often signify new beginnings and the unknown. I feel my journey through my teenage years bear that same feeling. While the previous piece felt much darker in tone, this one fills me with a feeling of curiosity, like you just want to keep walking down the corridors.
