Introduction

In this unit of Freestyle we were assigned find something or someone that we thought was interesting to do a profile on. In English we were told to pick 3 people to interview and find a researchable topic on your subject, after that we began to write our paper which would be turned into a magazine. The magazine was made in Design class we started by practicing using inDesign for the first time then we went on our owns and began to work on our projects. In Web class we started by experimenting with After Effects then after we got comfortable using it we began our Introduction Video. Lastly in Web we learned new techniques in Dreamweaver to create our websites.

I decided to do my project on Signature Sweets a which is a local cottage food operation that specializes in decorative sugar cookies. The business founded by Signa Atherton and Kimberly Dickerson was started 6 years ago and has gone through ups and downs but the two of them have a blast working. I interview Atherton and Dickerson for my project as long as Janice Palomo a long time customer of the business. I would like to thank all three of them for their support on this project.

This project was my favorite at Freestyle because I saw my self grow in each of my classes. I definitely feel like this has strengthened my writing which was something I've struggled with. I also feel like while making the magazine I learned a lot of valuable things that I can use throughout my life. In Web I definitely learned a lot about the creativity involved in making commercials. Bellow I attached an screen shot of my After Effects interface. I hope you enjoy my commercial.

Magazine

In this unit in Freestyle I was assigned to write and design a magazine article. I had to go find an interesting place, idea or person to do a profile on and go out and do interviews with those people. This was something that was brand new to me I had never had a project where I had to interview someone and really count on members of the community to make my project. I also learned how to use a lot of new technology including audio recorders and a new program Adobe inDesign. After doing my interviews and taking photos of my subject I had a good idea of how I wanted to depict them in my writing and also my magazine.

This project has taught me a lot of valuable lessons that I can use throughout the rest of my time at Freestyle, in high school and in life in general. This project has taught me a lot of cool new technology which I can use throughout my time here at freestyle. But it also taught me a lot of valuable lessons in time management and collaboration with my peers and my teachers. When writing this article I asked my teacher for help more frequently then I usually do because this skill was very new to me and I really feel like I grew as a writer because of it and I plan to use others as a resource more often in my writing. Bellow is a screen shot of my inDesign interface. I hope you enjoy my magazine.

About Person 1
Kimberly Dickerson is the co-owner of Signature Sweets. As a kid Kimberly’s favorite dessert was angel food cake with fresh strawberries and blueberries that she would get every year for her birthday. This is what made her passion for baking what it is today. She was always eager to help out in the kitchen whenever she could. Later in life in her 20s Kimberly took a baking class in New York and was baking for fun for many years until Signa asked her to join her in the creation of Signature Sweets. Thank you Kimberly for the support in the creation of this project.
About Person 2
Signa Atherton is the co-owner of Signature. As as a kid Signa’s favorite dessert was a brioche her mom made every year for Easter, with a lemon glaze and colored eggs in the center. Always wanting to help her mom in the kitchen she did what she could to help her bake. As an adult her dream was always to have a bakery, but a job in banking then kids came up. When her kids got to an age that they were somewhat self sufficient she started experimenting with baking cookies for Valentine's Day but never really went through with it years later she started baking again but she felt like it was missing something so she asked Kimberly to join and the business was created then. Thank you Signa for all the support in creating this project.
About Person 3
Janice Palomo is a frequent customer of Signature Sweets. She was the first customer of the business buying logo cookies for her company. She keeps going back because of they always make what she wants, when she wants perfectly. Thank you Janice for supporting my project.
