Welcome to my profile project website. This project's focus was to profile a person of interest through writing, photography, and video. The goal was to bring out the essance of the person we chose through what we produced, while also making the peices appealing to the audience and enjoyable to look at. The end products would be a 5 page magazine, a website, a presentation, and a video all on our profile person. The person of my choosing was Jon Rodriguez.

"Jon Rodriguez is a generous man who not only helps those in need, but balances his time between work, family, and community." That was the first line of my Nut Graf, the paragraph in my magazine that explains why Jon is unique. Many examples of his generosity dot his life like joining Bayshore Christian Ministries (an organization that provides a place to hang for kids and teens) right out of college to giving a guitar to a friend named Katie (who I interviewed). Here are some quotes about Jon from my interviews.

To create the Media feature I used After Effects to make all the pictures move in unison using null objects. Adjustment layers were also used to create the blur effects seen in the video.

In design class we used the program called inDesign to create a magazine using the profile piece we made in English. I put cracked concrete in the background because my central metaphor was "Jon is like a flower growing through the cracks in some concrete" and I happened to like rounded corners, making that a subtle theme.

To reflect, the entire project has taught me so much so quickly that has been a bit overwhelming to apply new techniques that I have barely understand in assignments due in such a short amount of time. This, paired with the apparent lack of care to get work done during this project by many other students has caused some tension emotionally when deadlines are fast approaching. This project has also stretched my creative abilities to the limit, since normally I tend to think about functionality, not beauty. But the rush to apply what we learned helped keep what we learned in our heads, and to experience what being in the real work force is really like.

The last project for the profile unit was to make a presentation that explains who the profile person was but focuses more on what was learned through the process. When making the presentation, I decided to use the blue and red that is on and around the title on my magazine as my color theme. Also I kept the rounded corners design element to further bring unity between my magazine and my presentation. Overall, the presentation was one of the easiest assignments in the unit because it was a matter of putting everything together in a presentation, not the creation of new pictures, new design elements, or new code that other projects required. The presentation forced me to look back and realize how much freestyle is teaching me (even though it has been challenging to keep up).
