Documentary Home

The purpose of the Documentary Unit project was to research a specific place and discover a story beneath the surface that people never really notice. We began by picking a specific place and interviewing residents or others who were active in that area/community. Using recording devices we took the audio samples and spliced them in Web Audio for our slideshow. In English we wrote an essay, that would later be turned into a book, about the hidden story regarding our location. Then after heavily editing our work, we created a book in Design using InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop, formatting our template and using appropriate color schemes.

In Web Audio we created a website for our topic. We filled it with slideshows, music and a modified version of our book. We utilized Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Reason and Pro Tools to edit all of our audio and media for our site. Ultimately, we worked off each class which was dependnet on all of our other projects. On the other pages visitors will see thumbnails or brief descriptions of our projects and links to view them. From the Documentary Project unit I have learned a lot more about the Saint Vincent De Paul Society than I expected to coming in. I have honed my skills in interviewing, refining my Design abilities and coding skills. I have also increased my aptitude in different styles of writing while keeping them in proper grammatical and thematic formats.
